Husband and wife nabbed in RM500K drug haul in Ipoh

IPOH: Over half a million ringgit worth of drugs were seized by the police while a married couple was arrested at Jalan Medan Ipoh here.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Comm Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the drugs, with a total estimated value of RM538,846, were found at two houses following the arrest of the couple, aged 39 and 37, at about 7.45pm on Monday (June 26).

Comm Mohd Yusri said in the first location where the arrests were made, the police seized various drugs including 8.5g of ketamine, eight ecstasy pills (weighing 3.3g), five Erimin 5 pills (1.35g) and ecstasy powder (22.4g).

"At 10.25pm the same day, we raided another house, used as a storage and packaging centre," he told a press conference here on Wednesday (June 28).

"We found and seized 757g of ketamine, 2,765 ecstasy pills (1,088g), 15,250 Erimin 5 pills (4,330g), loose ecstasy powder (1,020g), and 141 packets of ecstasy powder with a combined weight of 3,427g.

"We also seized equipment used to pack the drugs, a car and RM1,200 cash," he added.

Comm Mohd Yusri said one of the suspects tested positive for ketamine.

Both do not have criminal records and are believed to have been actively distributing drugs since early 2021, he said.

"The drugs are (meant for distribution) in the state and could be used by about 40,000 people," he added.

Both suspects have been remanded for seven days until July 3 to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

"We continue to urge the people to forward information related to drugs to us so that we can take action and ensure the state is drug-free," Comm Mohd Yusri added.
